1999

PepsiCo formalizes its sustainability initiative.

2001

PepsiCo Environmental Task Force forms to standardize metrics and develop an Environmental Management System framework.

2002

Pepsi-Cola U.S. set 10% recycled content goal by 2005 for plastic carbonated soft drink beverage packaging. PepsiCo responded to the first Carbon Disclosure Project questionnaire and continues to participate.

2003

PepsiCo Global Reporting Initiative Guidelines adopted.

2004

PepsiCo Sustainability Vision defined.

2005

Frito-Lay North America awarded LEED Gold certification for its "green" distribution center in Rochester, NY.

2006

PepsiCo announces Environmental Policy.

Dow Jones Sustainability Index North America names PepsiCo to the list for the first time.

2007

PepsiCo named EPA Energy Star Partner of the Year.

PepsiCo commits to reduce water consumption by 20 percent, reduce electricity consumption 20 percent, and reduce fuel consumption by 25 percent per unit of production by 2015 as compared to its 2006 consumption.

LEED Gold certification awarded to Gatorade manufacturing facility in Virginia, the largest food and beverage LEED-certified facility and to the QTG Tolleson Distribution Center.

PepsiCo named to Dow Jones Sustainability World Index and remained on Dow Jones Sustainability Index North America.

Walker's becomes the first food company to display a carbon footprint label on its packs.

2008

Frito-Lay harnesses solar energy to help make SunChips multigrain snacks.

PepsiCo launches its Global Sustainable Packaging Policy.

PepsiCo is recognized with an Energy Star Partner of the Year award.

PepsiCo signs the United Nation's CEO Water Mandate.

PepsiCo is named to the Dow Jones World and North America Indexes.

2009

PepsiCo is the first company in North America to certify a product-level carbon footprint with Tropicana Pure Premium orange juice.

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) recognizes PepsiCo with the 2009 Energy Star Sustained Excellence Award in recognition of its continued leadership in protecting our environment through energy efficiency.
